Newt Gingrich became the latest Republican candidate to endorse the so-called marriage 
pledge, a document put forward by an influential evangelical group in Iowa that opposes same-sex marriage and abortion.
Mr. Gingrich stopped short of signing the pledge but he did pledge to “uphold the institution of marriage through personal fidelity to my spouse and respect for the marital bonds of others.”
